As the title states, who is in the southern area of Maine?  Do any of you get together at Crossroads?  Are there regular gaming nights?  What about other places?

Ken

There are a handfull of us that get together on tuesday nights at Crossroads roughly 6 pm. We typically play something in the WWII time frame although I'm sure most of us are open to pretty much anything. WWII just seems to be the popular period.

I'm in Amesbury, MA- still north of the Merrimack....

We have a decent gaming presence down here- The Toy Soldier does all Warhammer and FOW stuff, and there is a group of purists that do everything else. I'm usually willing to travel an hour to play a game- over that and I have trouble seeing the value....

I'll be posting games from time-to-time and all are welcome- just reply to the post and show up... I have a vacation coming up in March and I'm itching to play 25mm ACW...

In the mean time, I'm busy building Little Round Top for the 2/27 game day- anyone interested can stop by and check it out here in Amesbury.

Hope to see you around the tables- AND GET YOUR MEMBERSHIP TODAY!!!!!!!!!

Where exactly is Crossroads at Sebago Lake station?

The missus grew up halfway between Standish Corner and Sebago Lake station, next to Sylvania.  (That's the property some @#$%& bought from her widowed mother and then sold to the town for a community center--except the town didn't do due diligence, and now can't build on the wetland!)

I haven't been home since 2003, and didn't get over to Standish that trip.  So it's been since... 1999?

We know what *used* to be there.  The Crossroads Web site keeps referring to the Sebago Lake post office, which hasn't been there for a few years, since it moved up to the Hannaford's center.  All I remember being across the road was a house.  Is that Crossroads now?

Thanks,

Allen

I've been by Crossroads quite a few times.  But I am still a rookie when it comes to navigating the area.  I can tell you it's just west of the four way stop.  Not sure what the building used to be but it does seem very large.
I did stop in there once.  It was about eleven in the morning and it was snowing.  I walked around for a bit looking and such.  I had a nice talk with the owner (I can't remember his name, now).  As I was leaving I asked him what the business hours were.  Imagine my embarassment when he told me they didn't even open until noon.  I had walked in and browsed about like I owned the place myself and he didn't even tell me that he wasn't opened yet.
Looks like I will be making a trip or two on Tuesdays at six.

Ok, thanks, Ken.  It looks from Google Maps/Google Earth that it's a new building--new since we were last by there anyway.  Just a few feet (northwest, up what is now Richville Road) from the house we remember.  The odd thing is that Street View in Google Earth doesn't show it at all.

Likewise, in MS Virtual Earth (now Bing Maps), it shows in the satellite imagey (same database as Google Earth, I think), but isn't there in the higher-resolution aerial photography.

That's actually ticking me off as I look at real estate back home; the state's imagery databases aren't very current.  Our farm shows as it did before my mother passed away in 2003.

Hey Guys-
So I see all the discussion going on here under our group and no one from the group has spoken up, ironic... Right now the guys from the SMHGS have no home they are playing at. We used to play at CRG years ago and then move to Game Geeks in So. Po., but ultimately we have ended up in members basements, most often playing up in Poland or New Gloucester. We're open to new players coming up for the games when we have the chance to get together, which is roughly once a month, but sometimes every other. I'll do me best to keep a posting up here for any who wish to attend. Generally we play 28mm WW2 games, but also do CY6, Gladiators, Ancients, and are open to other ideas as well. Hope to see some of you there.

As Shooeyd noted SMHGS is not the same crew that games weekly at Crossroads. We are a unorganized group of like minded historical gamers who play on the edge. By that I mean we are a minority of 4-6 playing in a land of temptation 40K, Warhammer, Role playing and Card games abound. While at times we get sidetracked ( new shinny sickness) we have enough variety in the group to maintain the interest and hold our own. The proximity to other gamers is helpful at times occasionally we can pull in a new player, wandering by a game about to start will put you at risk of getting shanghaied.
Mhuskins is spot on we meet weekly at aprox 6pm and are indeed open to new periods, rules and scales.
Right now we have been play testing our FOW game for February's event in Bath. This week is a break as my copy of BKCII {Blitzkrieg Commander II) just arived :) It will Eastern front goodness at 6mm/6pm.
We welcome any who would stop by no pressure at all jump in a game or just watch.

Wayne,

Yes, nice looking town.  In fact, nice looking game table.  Very clean and uncluttered.  I do believe that I have those same buildings saved on my computer.  I'm going to have to print them out, now.  And my copy of BC2 arrived Saturday!!  I will be giving it a going over soon.   Let me know when a where you guys will be getting together next.

Tuesday at Crossroads after 6. We will be giving BKCII a test run. We've been using BKC for 6mm Battalion and larger games. Its a fast paced, fun rule set.

I'm glad to see you posted the pics Wayne, they look great. It's definitely a fun scenario and I'm sure it will be a smashing success in February. So we're playing BKCII on tuesday? I havent ordered any Americann armor yet but I plan on doing so within the hour. I'll see you between 5 and 6 tuesday. I can't wait to try out the new rules. -Mark

Great table, really nice job with the terrain.  I have got to work more on that and less on the figs.  That must really make for an outstanding game.

Hey guys -

Larry here, chiming in along with Dave (Shooeyd).

Our group, the Southern Maine Historical Gaming Society, has been playing various historical games for, um, 10 years now? (Gads, has it been that long???) We're in the greater Portland area.

Most of us focus on 28mm WW2 using the BattleGround:WW2 rules (heavily modified, of course) :)  Flames of War made a slash but hasn't been played much lately.

Drop me an email (wirish1ATmaineDOTrrDOTcom) or visit our Yahoo group (<http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/SouthernMeHistGameSoc> membership required, sorry) if you're interested in joining a game.

Hi, Larry.

Good to see you guys posting about the club!  When will you get a game scheduled again?

Hope to see you in February at the Game Day.

Dean

SOUTHERN area??? So far, WE seem to be the ones furthest south - Lol
You can find us in middle Georgia about 15 miles south of Macon!
And Google Earth IS NOT particularly up to date as my Wart (the old cottage) is still what shows up on their maps. It got torn down in the spring of 2003!   Andy
