Crossroads Historical
We played a test run of the Fow scenario for the 27th last night. I must say it was one of the better FOW games I've played we only played through five turns as my americans were a little slow getting infantry deployed to assault the town and I couldnt for the life of me lay down enough fire to pin the Panzer grenadiers for an assault.(my dice were ice cold last night....must be the weather.) However I did manage to scratch up the paint on the tiger with my shermans. Sadly it was inconclusive as one of us had babysitting duty for the evening and another had to leave early to rescue his 17 year old daughter. So we were unable to play as late as we usually do. Hopefully we will give it another run next week. Either way we will be there at 6pm on tuesday and playing something. If anyone is in the area and would like to join in please stop by. We always have room for more. -Mark
I would like to formally post an open invitation to anyone who would like to stop by Crossroad Games on any given tuesday night for an evening of historical gaming. We are a small group but we have a deep seeded passion for history and gaming, and everyone is really easy to get along with. We usually play something in the WWII time frame as that seems to be the popular period but we are expanding our horizons and are always looking for something new to play. We are always happy to see new faces at the game table so all are welcome. If anyone is interested in play testing a scenario we are more than eager to try pretty much anything. We would really like to get together with other people from the gaming comunity and share knowledge and experiences and figured if we posted something on this forum we may attract more "historically" minded gamers to our small and semi disorganized group. We hope to see you sometime at Crossroads. -Mark
P.S. Wayne has an extensive collection of terrain and buildings in several scales and we all have a respectable collection of minitures so there is no need to bring anything but yourself unless you have a specific game in mind or would like to pit your forces against one of ours. Wayne I belive posted a tentative schedule, but we are very flexible.
LHMG would be more than willing to come down and challenge you to a game of FOW. Lets work up or pick a scenario and I will bring it up at this months meeting and see who else is interested and when we can do it.
Bill,
I wish I could play half as often as you do!
Dean,
Right now I have the time not to mention the kids to keep busy. Hopefully it will last on both counts. Of course when I get back to work I may not have quite so much time. The best thing is the kids can do and are interested in doing a lot of it themselves. That and I need to get a life <VBG>.
Bill
Bill - this IS your life - savor every little bit so that when you're a really old fart, you'll have all this joy and experience with which to beat the snot out of your opponents!!! It's been the best part of my life for the past 25 years or so . . .

A big part of our success in running weekly games is consistency. When I first started we would try to work around every ones schedule and plan our games by consensus. It didn't work, the resulting confusion led to misfires and lost players. By locking down the time and date we could count on always getting at least two and = game time. Now the only thing that stops game night is those pesky family holidays and the weather, some of us still haven't got the sense to stay home when it snows : ) Another big help is a stable place to meet. CRG has always been welcoming has plenty of space to accommodate us. Bill its great that your kids join in my son did when younger, now that I'm officaly an old fart with the kids all grown up I can game at will... More or less um with the proper notifications naturaly .

My kids are grown up its me that's still a kid (even though I am an old fart) <VBG>. Is tuesday night the only time you play historicals?
Bill
We have been known to stray from the tuesday routine occasionally but that seems to be the day that works best for us. Weekends are next to impossible not only because Crossroads becomes a mob scene of card flippers and sci-fi types but because we all have family's and aren't permitted to spend ALL of our spare time gaming.
We tried thursdays for awhile but as I said tuesday seemed to be the day that we got the most consistent attendance. -Mark

Wayne is absolutely correct about consistency. It also applies to venue. Don't know which of you has a "man-cave" but it would improve club size and regularity if everyone knew that there would always be a game on a specific day in a specific space. When the Toy Soldier was still in Bath we'd have old timers returning from extended leaves of absence who would just show up out of the blue because they KNEW exactly when and where there would be a game. When we moved the shop into our house we kept the game days on Wednesdays and Saturdays for purposes of consistency. And although the venue changed, once everyone figured out where we were - gaming continued as it had before closing the shop. One other rule of consistency was kept from the beginning - the game always ended at 10:00pm. This was extremely important on Wednesday nights as Thursdays were/are a working day. It still left time for everybody to de-compress after the game and be able to get into bed at a reasonable hour. It's always tempting to finish the game in one session but it's never a good idea when the real work-a-day world has to be dealt with on the following day. You'll keep players coming back if they know they won't miss something by having to leave before the end of the game. So there's my 2 cents - consistency of time, place, and deadlines . . .

I finally decided to post. Dave and I are planning an Axis and Allies War at Sea campaign to usher in the new set. This will be a 6 week campaign. The first week will be a sealed event and the next 5 will be year specific. More info to come!

John,
I'm in the market for Yorktown class carriers. If you know of anyone with spares for trade or sale, please pass it on.
Thanks,
