Hello.
I ran across this thought a while ago, first when writing to Don Featherstone and then in another forum. It applies to the gamemasters among us.

I don't know about you, but I have a HUGE collection of figures, terrain, dice, tapes, rules, books, paints, and so on. I am also well over and 50 years old and extremely fortunate that Austin is interested in gaming and history, and he wants to be a GM.

A lot of what we have collected will long outlive us. Thus the quote from "Puff The Magic Dragon". What are you planning when you're gone and the game equipment isn't?

The MHWA can have what my nephews don't want- should be a bunch of stuff for the club, or ticket auctions....

BUT NOT FOR A LONG TIME....

Hello.
I don't plan to keel over tomorrow, either. My concern is that the equipment find a good home with someone who will care for it and use it to give some fun to others.

I am sure I can count on Austin for that.

Bob - you do realize how blessed you are to have a youngster who is interested!? One of the great things about being in the 'biz' for this many years is that though all the stuff may seem old or out-grown or out-dated - it's all "antiquated" and therefore VALUABLE! Especially to those who care. I remember the days when fantasy and sci-fi were considered to be the fringe of the fringe and we were all misfits of the first water!!! I loved it all and even as recently as mumble-mumble years ago I was being ragged on for reading all that "crap." Now a days, people who are old enough to have been in on the genre from its early days are treated more like rock stars - well, among the "in crowd" anyway. We've crossed over to an age of planned obsolescence - which of course makes us older than our years!  LOL Never-the-less it's good to know that the next generation is at least as committed as we were/are - and should be encouraged - or committed. wink

Currently have 6 nephews and 2 nieces.  The oldest is 7, and so far he has helped me make terrain boards, played numerous WW2 skirmish games and small scale renaisannce era games on a 4x4 gaming area, and begun to paint some larger things like a pond, a tank, a sci-fi robot.

Hoping at least this one carries the hobby through his life, but if not, I've got a few other opportunites coming along as well.

The next generation gives us hope for more fun days ahead. Its great to see kids around the table- it brings me back to my early days at the Toy Soldier.....

Dean is working on a plan for community outreach to schools and libraries to help build a future for the MHWA. Stay tuned to find out how you can help...

SHOES?????   What are those? Oh yeah - I remember, those pieces of fabric or leather that bind your feet in un-natural configurations that rub all the pointy parts off!!!  LOL

My son wants the Warhammer 40K stuff, and I'll probably leave it all to him to sort out. The girls aren't interested in any of it.  I've thought a lot about this, and the thing is, although it could go up on ebay or some of the trade boards, you'd have to have an idea of what it's worth before you list it.

I think that the Geo-Hex, tables, and major terrain will be donated to the club in whatever form it is at that time.  Prolly most of the Historical stuff as well. Seems to me that that letting the club have it and either keep it or raffle it off is the best way to keep it in circulation.

  Respects,

Hello.
That's my take as well. I just want to have the stuff have a good home where it will be cared for and put to use to let gamers have fun.
