February 5th Game Test- please RSVP!
Chris Penney will be hosting the next game test of the MHWA featured game for Huzzah!, Viking Dawn, at his home in Hollis on Saturday, February 5th. For this game test the focus will be primarily on the scenario. If you are available to run a command, please RSVP by replying to this post. The plan is to begin at 10:00am and we will need 8 to 10 people to really give it a good test. Your help will be appreciated!
If you have, somehow, missed the hoopla about the game to this point, Viking Dawn is going to be our club game for Huzzah! MHWA is providing the figures for the game, and we've invited clubs from outside of Maine to paint and command the Vikings, while the clubs from Maine paint and command the poor Saxons in the village. Its going to be a freewheeling game of mayhem and destruction. In addition, there will be a painting contest for the game as well. Should be lots of fun.
Chris lives at 19 Usher Mill Rd. in Hollis. Its about 20 minutes west of Portland.
Hope you can make it!
Put me on the guest list please! You still need stuff painted?
Hi, Mikey.
We will certainly need Saxons painted. Thanks for offering! I'll try to have them at Chris Penney's home for the game test.
Hi Dean,
The boys were wondering if you still had Saxons for us?
Bill
What is up with the present unpleasantness at Wargames Factory- something about Tony getting screwed... Do we need a contingency plan?
I'll be at Chris' on the 5th with ephemera in hand.... See you all then.

Hi, Bill.
We hope to have troops by the end of the week, then I'll get them out to everyone.

Hi, Andy. Yep, Tony and the rest of the crew, with the exception of Lonnie, were let go by the company without any sort of notice. Its an unpleasant mess. We have decided to go ahead with the game and have placed an order for figs. I'll be drafting a note to go out to everyone, maybe this evening, just letting all the clubs know that we are still planning to offer the game.
Sorry to hear Tony is having troubles. We already have some of our own Saxons and Vikings we havent done if that would help towards the over all total.
Thanks, Bill. Yeah, its a lousy situation. Hopefully they hit the ground running.
If you want to get started on your troops, great. We'll get some to you as soon as we can!
Chris - hope that you can make it. The more people we have for the playtest, the more it will resemble the actual game and the more feedback we can get. Hope to see you on the 5th
Jim
I have some Lord of the Rings Rohrrim that can pinch-hit for dark ages warriors if we need them.
Dean,
How do you want us to base them?
Bill
Hi, Bill.
Individually mounted on round or square bases would be fine. We can supply fender washers if you want them, or you can use what you like. There are some force composition guidelines that Jim and Chris are putting the finishing touches to, which I will send along to you.
Thanks for the help!
Dean,
They have started assembly on what we have. What size were the fender washers and will they be in movement trays like last time? Thanks.
Bill
No movement trays this time around. The fender washers are ... 7/8, maybe 1". I'll check when I head out to the barn!
It is not then end of the world if there are a few different basing systems on the table as long as all figures are individually based. We are, however, recommending that figures be based on 20mm x 20mm square bases. This seems to be the best system for resolving battles with multiple figures and for identifying the strength and morale of the individual figures.

I just got a box of Gripping Beast's plastic Thegns and Conquest's plastic Norman Knights. Hopefully I'll have a few Thegns painted by Saturday.
