Answer the Call to Arms
Sadly one of our most active members will be moving to Florida in the coming weeks and due to my own crazy work schedule The Crossroads historical gamers numbers are few most weeks. If there is anyone in southern Maine Specifically the greater Portland area(Crossroads is in Standish). We would love to have you come join us. We typically meet on tuesday or wednesday nights between 5 and 6 pm, but we are pretty flexible with our schedule for the most part. We usually play in the WWII time frame but are VERY open minded and willing to play almost anything provided it is historical. If anyone has time and/or a game they would like to play please let us know and by all means join us some night. We would like to expand our ranks and play on a more frequent basis. I know there are people in our area who enjoy historical gaming. Just let us know what and when works for you. We see alot of people on the spring and fall Game Days we;d just like to see some of you more often. Take care. We hope to see you soon. -Mark
Sadly yes with Eric's departure our little group is teetering on the edge of oblivion. Marks still with us but he's an ammited workaholic : ) and not able to attend much, John has been abducted buy a small but viciously annoying....shudder "clicky" game fanatics. While others to few to mention have drifted off to cleaner fields. It was a good run 6 + years but things change and we move on. So with that behind us its either recuiting for reinforcements at Crossroads or the start of the "Adopt a Gamer" program.

Guys:
I would love to join you. I've been itching for a game of FOW for quite a while. With the early war British in North Africa coming out soon I'm looking forward to getting an early war force. The problem is that during the week works gets in the way. I never know when I'm getting out of work.
I've also been itching to get more games of Dust Tactics in. Not historical I know, but cool miniatures.
(Boy, I had better do something about all this itching.)
Hey guys if you dont mind I like to offer some suggestions,
First is network and its the toughest its a time sponge but someone need to do it post recruitment drive info at forums, yahoo groups, face book and other type places.
Pick a day or two and stick to it.
We run games on Thursday and on the 2nd and last Sat of the month. we picked a week day and a weekend time to allow everyone access and we focus on the 2nd sat of the month as "Thee" day for gaming we figure if you cant game once a month on a regular basis your probably in the wrong hobby. Also by picking a simple to remember time and day no one will forget... And speaking of Hobby the last sat of the month we focus on the hobby side of things by encouraging group members to gather for a "sewing bee" type day were you paint and model its amazing the fun and work that can be had sitting around a table painting joking and maybe watching Band of Brothers.
Hello.
Up here in the Bangor group, we send a monthly newsletter to anyone who has shown an interest and have the games on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Total newsletters is about 24-30, with attendance about 4-6 for a given game.
In other words, there is more passing interest than steady interest. That will probably always be so. It also pays to keep in mind that gamers (i.e., players) outnumber gamemasters by at least 3 to 1, even in the committed wargamers lists.
Therefore, aim anything you do at gamers, with a full explanation that all the things needed to play are provided, free-for-nothing, except their participation. That is where this hobby beats out computer games and every other similar hobby.

Mark & Wayne,
When do you guys game next? I'll see what I can do about getting free (car pooling is an issue here) for the evening and maybe try to lure my buddy John in for a game as well.
Bob
Good ideas. We do have a regular Day, time and location and that helps. The news letter is a good idea Mark has been after me to post our plans here and I could give out more info. Bob you make a great point
"full explanation that all the things needed to play are provided, free-for-nothing, except their participation." That we can do all they need to bring is a interest we can provide the rest.
Thank you for the help
Wayne
Hi Bob
This week its Wednesday at 6 - 630. The plan is a Disposable Hero's game and and we could use a few more squad leaders. I have the troops, terrain and a scenario in mind.
Wayne
Scenario? Are you gonna fill us in?
I will give me a day to flesh it out. I'll post the plan tomorrow.
I wish I could do weekday guys, but I can't. Good luck. If you ever do something on the weekend post it and let us all know.
I will, Mark and I have been talking about it perhaps once a month on a Saturday. What we need to do is find another location CRG is a zoo most weekends I have the room but Bridgton is a bit out of the way for most. I did see your FOW post unfortunately I just sent my entire collection away to auction haven't touched it for years. That said if you have the troops we wouldn't turn down a game.
Wayne
Like almost everything I play, I've overcommitted and have way to many armies...
Fall and Winter are my busiest times but with Spring here and Summer fast approaching, I should be able to make the weekday games.
If you are playing FOW, I have a US Rifle Company.
What is the next date/time?
Christopher
Hi Christopher
We are getting back into the Tuesday at 6 groove. As for games this week it was Black Power and 10mm ACW mini's good fun. Next week its 28mm Skirmish as we tool up for Huzzah. Stop in and check it out. At this time we aren't playing FOW but don't worry about needing to bring anything, I have the troops just looking some friends to help push them around. Myself Mark and John will be in at 530 or so hope you can drop in.
